TWO OF MY FAVORITE PEOPLE!

My grandson and son on the way to school on the walking path near their home.  I love this picture. Two good looking guys in my life!

LOSING A FATHER

My son lost his father to cancer on Friday, January 21, 2010.  He was a good man and a good father.  I kept Tater while my son and daughter-in-law attended the funeral on Sunday.  My son  gave the eulogy at his dad’s funeral.   You can read what he said on his blog here.

He paid a wonderful tribute to his father.  May his father rest in peace.

CHRISTMAS AT SOUTHERN MOMMA’S

Video Man, Surrie Belle, and Tater Tot enjoying the V-tech computer Southern Nana got Tater for Christmas.

  It was a good day!

SURRIE BELLE WITH FORMER FIRST LADY OF KY

Hanging out this morning at the new Kiehl’s store with former KY First Lady Patton and Miss Kentucky to accept a donation for RMHC….not a bad way to start a day

PAINTINGS FOR TATER’S ROOM BY DADDY, VIDEO MAN!

75 LBS. AND LOOKING GOOD!

Video Man has reached one of his goals. He has lost 75 lbs.! Next comes a trip back to the doctor for advice on whether to continue losing at this point. Weight Watchers has really been a good thing for him.

We are all very proud of him and his accomplishment!

SEVENTY POUNDS LIGHTER!

Video Man has been going to Weight Watchers for several months and has lost 70 lbs. toward his goal.  This Southern Momma is so proud of my Southern son and what he is doing.  He feels and acts like a new person and I am sure his health is very much improved.  Surrie Belle, Tater, Guinness, and Blue Moon are all proud of him, too.

One more thing……….just look at the difference in the two photos and look at what a good looking son, husband, father and brother this man has become.  Video Man has always been so loved by our family and we have always been proud of him.  We are all just so happy for him.

A FIRST PUBLISHED DRAWING!

Southern Momma found this copy of a high school newspaper in one of her cookbooks recently.  It has one of Video Man’s first published drawings while he was still in high school.

This has been a few years ago! Today, he is a very talented artist.

MOTHER AND SON!

Did you ever see a more beautiful picture of a mother and son?  The look on Tater’s face says it all!  He is in the arms of his wonderful “Mommy”.

PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, AND SUCH BY THE VIDEO MAN

Title: Genesis
Media: Acrylic on canvas
Date: Fall of 2002
Dimensions: 24″x 48″

One of the first non-objective paintings I ever did and I still feel it is one of my strongest. The title refers to the passage in Genesis where God seperates the light from the darkness. I’m a bitcinated by dichotomy…light and dark, positive and negative, good and evil…male and female. These are the sort of things I was thinking of when I did this painting.

Title: All Along the Highwire
Media: Pen and Ink on Paper
Dimensions: 18″x 24″
I completed this piece just a few months after my graduation from college but the idea had been bouncing around in my head for several years. The notion that life is a balancing act between two dangerous extreems is one that had occoured to me at a very young age and expressing that visually became something of an obsession. I had done a number of drawings of figures inching along on tightropes but none of them really said what I wanted to say. In the end it was a question of scope, by combining all the drawings together to create an infinate space, I managed to hit upon the image I was looking for.
